Overview

HIV.gov (formerly known as AIDS.gov) is a government website that aims to bring federal HIV and AIDS resources, policies, and programs to the American public. The organization aims to increase knowledge about HIV, provide access to services for people most at risk or living with HIV, and use new media tools to reach the public.

Description

The HIV.gov website features several tabs where users can find more information about HIV/AIDS and government efforts and resources. In the HIV Basics section, users can learn about key terms and definitions. In Federal Response, users can find all of the government efforts to end the HIV epidemic in the US. In Digital Tools, users can learn more about the information efforts in social media and communication tools. Finally, users can go to the Events tab to learn more about HIV/AIDS awareness events for different populations.

HIV Basics

The HIV Basics section has a host of information about HIV/AIDS along with helpful tools and resources. The information is presented in different categories: Overview, Prevention, Testing, Starting in HIV Care, Staying in HIV Care, and Living Well With HIV. There are frequently asked questions in each section for users to find information pertaining to their specific needs.

Federal Response

In the Federal Response section, users can browse and learn more about the government’s efforts to address the HIV epidemic in the United States. The page is divided into sections for Policies, Programs, Research, and Global Efforts. All of this information is available in English and Spanish.

Digital Tools

One of the key aspects of HIV.gov is its use of social media and digital tools to bring pertinent HIV/AIDS information to the public.
